The EU Fourth Report on Economic and Social Cohesion demonstrates that the Portuguese regions Centro and Norte were the EU15 less productive regions in 2004, as measured by GDP per person employed, reaching only 46.6 and 47.0 of the EU27 average and below some of the new member states regions, such as Prague in Czech Republic (55.1), Közép-Magyarország in Hungary (56.8), Slovenia (58), Malta (58.8) and Cyprus (72.7). On the other side is Luxembourg with a productivity of 182.3 of the EU27 average, a 19 times higher productivity than the one of Yuzhen tsentralen in Bulgaria (9.6)!! A long way to go in European cohesion policy...
