"In the past European regional policy focussed more on the opening of new roads. The regional policy we want to develop is about opening minds." Commissioner Hubner, 14 June 2007.
EU Commissioner for Regional Policy Danuta Hubner has been performing an invaluable role in alerting European regions for the challenges and opportunities ahead and, at the same time, in struggling for changes in European regional policy. Ageing population, global competition and climate change are some of the most urgent challenges both Europe and its regional policy have to face which, in turn, call for changes in the way Structural Funds are distributed and locally managed if we want to help European regions meet those challenges.
Commissioner Hubner speeches are available in the EC website
